Britax Roundabout

Evenflo Triumph

The Evenflo Triumph Advance LX is a one of the most popular convertible car seats. It meets all applicable US government safety standards, comfortable for children and affordable for parents. The seat is designed to carry infants from 2 to 35 lbs (0.9 to nearly 16 kg) in rear-facing position, and from 20 to 50 lbs (9 to 22.6 kg), and up to 50 inches tall (127 cm) in forward-facing position. The increased 50 lbs weight rating for forward-facing means that with this car seat your child gets to stay in a 5-point harness approximately 1.5 years longer than traditional car seats with a 40 lbs rating. The Seat and has some unique features, such as the Infinite Slide Harness Adjustment system, TensionRight knob to tighten harness from the side, a multi-position ReclineRight base and a fold-down cup holder on side of the seat. The seat cover can be easily removed and machine-washed.

Britax Roundabout

The Britax Roundabout Convertible car seat is top-rated by experts and owners, and is renowned for safety, comfort and convenience. It has proven itself as one of the safest car seats in the market in crash tests and car seat reviews. The seat can accommodate infants in rear-facing position from 5 to 35 lbs (2.3 to 16 kg) and forward-facing from at least one year old and 20 lb up to 40 lbs (9 to 18 kg). This seat is very easy to install and to use, and has some unique features such as a push button release LATCH system with patented Versa-Tether, push-button for easy adjustment of the front harness, tangle-free harness straps, and very convenient velcro belt holders to keep the straps to the side while getting child in and out of the seat.

Ease Of Installation

According to some reviews, it is somewhat tricky to get the Evenflo Triumph LX seat properly clipped in and tight enough. The LATCH clips themselves are the thin metal type you push with your thumb to release, as opposed to the easier to use mini seat belt style the Britax seat uses. Some users also reported the adjustment buckle for the LATCH belt being difficult to loosen.
The Britax Roundabout features premium push-button LATCH, designed to allow a quick, simple and tight installation. These premium connectors attach to the lower LATCH anchors of the vehicle, and are easily released by simply pushing a button whenever you need to remove the seat from the vehicle. According to reviews, the LATCH system connectors of the Britax Roundabout are very easy to install. The LATCH straps hold the seat very tightly in the car, and can be easily clipped in and out so the seat can be moved between cars.

Kid Weight Versatility

The Evenflo Triumph has a maximum weight rating of 50 lbs (22.6kg). This means that it will allow your child to stay in this seat in average 1.5 years longer than traditional car seats with a 40 lbs rating like the Britax Roundabout. Forward-facing, the seat can accommodate a child from 20 up to 50 lbs (9 22.6 kg), and up to 50 inches tall (127 cm) - which is the U.S. average weight for 7 year olds, and average height for 8 year olds.
The Britax Roundabout is suitable for kids up to 40 lbs (18kg) - which is close to the average weight for American 5 year olds. On its forward-facing position, this seat is designed to accommodate kids over one year old, from 20 lbs up to 40 lbs (9 18 kg). According to U.S. average weight charts this is suitable for your kids and they will be able to use the seat until they are around 5 years old.

Safety

The Evenflo Triumph LX car seat meets or exceeds all applicable U.S. safety standards. One of its key safety features is the InfiniteSlide harness system which allows you to change the harness height by sliding its tabs up and down. The TensionRignt knob also helps keeping the harness tight and snug. The EPP energy absorbing foam liner helps absorb energy to maintain proper positioning in the case of sudden or jarring movement.
The Britax Roundabout is renowned for its safety, with top performance in crash tests and top rating in car seat reviews, both by experts and owners. The Roundabout features Side Impact Protection system, which is a combination of a rigid shell, deep side walls, and energy-absorbing EPS foam that lines the shell. This system helps protect the child from side impact crash injuries, by distributing crash forces, shielding child from vehicle intrusion, and containing child's head and body in the seat. The EPS impact foam (Expanded Poly-Styrene foam) is the same material used in bicycle helmets. During a crash, the EPS foam deforms and absorbs some of the crash force energy. It diverts some of the crash force energy from the child and also forms a barrier between the child and the seat shell. The EPS foam lines the shell (including the sides), head restraints and at the lower part of the seat below the child's legs. The Roundabout also features the patented Energy-Absorbing Versa-Tether system, which anchors the top of the seat and can be used in both forward-facing and rear-facing positions. This tether system is designed to minimize movement of the seat - and the child inside it - in the event of a crash. It also helps distribute crash force energy over a larger area of the seat shell, reduce the rebound of a crash, and extend the ride down of the crash. There are also built-in lock-offs that tightly secure the vehicle seat belt.

Child Comfort

The Evenflo Triumph's cozy seat features a multi-position ReclineRight base, a ventilated construction to keep child cool, removable body and neck pillows and a flip-down cup holder. According to reviews, although children generally feel very comfortable and fall asleep easily in the seat, it doesn't provide enough head support so the child's head can flop forward or to the side when they sleep. Also, according to some reviews, the plastic tabs at the top of the straps (used to adjust the shoulder height of the harness) can dig into the child's back or neck and may cause discomfort. Additionally, according to product instructions, you can only use one of the removable support pillows (neck or body) in the forward-facing position, not both. Reviews also criticize the removable flip-down cup holder, and say it is not very stable, breaks easily and won't hold a large sippy cup upright very well.
With a plush fabric, good padding, high-density comfort foam that gently cushions the child and both rear-facing and forward-facing recline, the Britax Roundabout offers extra comfort for your child. The seat has a deep headset area that allows comfortable sleep, keeping the child's head from flipping much forward or to the side when they are asleep in the seat. Also, the length of the crotch buckle is suitable even for chunky babies, and the extra padded crotch flap prevents the crotch straps and buckle from cutting into their thighs. According to reviews, Parents say babies fall asleep easily in the seat and kids are very comfortable and content even during long rides.

Ease of use

The Evenflo Triumph LX is a very easy to use car seat, having two main unique features: the InfiniteSlide harness system which allows you to change the harness height without rethreading the straps, and the TensionRight knob, which tightens harness easily from the side. To adjust the harness height, you don't need to rethread the straps through slots in the back of the seat like in other seats. Instead, all you need to do is slide the tabs of the InfiniteSlide harness system up and down. This not only saves you time but also helps you achieve proper positioning.
The downside of this system is that you actually have four preset positions, and the shoulder straps will move until they either reach one of those points or your child's shoulders. If they haven't reached one of these preset points the straps may still be a bit loose. Also, if you loosen the straps every time you take the child out of the seat, it means that you have to re-adjust the harness height every time you place your child in the seat. Some parents have reported that the tabs can dig into the skin on the neck or back of the child, which can cause discomfort.
The Britax Roundabout seat is very easy to both install and to use. It has a few superior ease-of-use features, such as the Premium push-button LATCH connectors for easy & tight installation and removal of the seat, front harness adjusters, and special Velcro belt holders. The seat has simple, easy to use, push-button to adjust or loosen the straps of the front harness, allowing for a consistently snug harness fit. The Velcro belt holders keep the harness straps to the sides while getting the child in or out of the seat.

Small Cars Fit

The Evenflo Triumph is a massive car seat, and the base of the seat is quite high. Because it takes up some space in the back seat area, it can be difficult to install it rear-facing in a smallish car. Product Dimensions: 17 x 20 x 29.5 inches.
The Britax Roundabout is compact sized, which is more suitable for vehicles with limited rear seat space. It may still be a bit too bulky for the smaller vehicles, mainly when in rear-facing position. With dimensions of 24 x 18.5 x 24.5 inches it tales up a little less space then the Evenflo Triumph.

Portability

The Evenflo Triumph weighs 21 lbs (9.5 kg) - 8 lbs (3.6 kg) heavier than the Britax Roundabout. It is also much bulkier than the Roundabout, and takes up much more space in a smaller car, or an airplane seat. It is also more difficult to install in the car, especially with the LATCH system.
Because of these reasons, the Evenflo Triumph is less travel-suitable in comparison to the Roundabout.
The Britax Roundabout weighs 13 lbs (nearly 6 kg), which is 8 lbs (3.6 kg) less than the Evenflo Triumph. It is also smaller than the Evenflo Triumph, and easier to install, even in a smallish car. The lighter weight and easy installation make the Britax Roundabout a better choice if you plan to transfer the seat between cars or take it on an airplane.

Low Cost

The Evenflo Triumph usually costs much less than the Britax.
The Britax Roundabout costs a lot more than the Evenflo Triumph.

Great Product

(Score 4/5)

It is a great product, however my daughter is about 20 months old and she looks like she is slouching in it and doesn't look too comfortable. The only other complain I have is that the cup holder constantly stays open and doesn't really hold too very effectively.

Great carseat!

We bought this carseat and liked it so much we bought 2 more. One for my car, one for my husbands and one for our sitter. It works great in all 3 of our cars. We have it in a Toyota Tundra, Toyota Highlander & a Jeep. Our son is now 10 months and has no problem being in his carseat! I would recommend this to anyone!

When our oldest son turned one, we decided to buy this car seat because of the high ratings on consumer reports. At first we thought we had gotten a great deal. However, by the time our son was two and able to fully communicate, he started saying that his back hurt every time he was in the seat. We would try to pad the seat and keep going. In the meantime, the straps started to slip down behind his shoulders daily and the tabs on the top of the straps fell off all together. Now that my son is 3, his back is starting to scab in the exact location where he complains of the car seat hurting him. In the meantime, we have bought a Britax Marathon for our youngest son and are very pleased with this seat. We have decided that the Britax is definitely worth the extra money.

good car seat

We bought this for our year old son who outgrew his first carseat due to his height. I read good reviews for this carseat and feel that it is very safe. We are using it rear facing for now and had no problem installing it. Very easy to get him in and out. Had to get used to the adjustment for the straps, but now it's easy. Thought it was a good price for a high quality, safe seat. We did have an issue with the second one we bought for our other car, but it was easily returned and got a new one within a few days.

Great car seat

(Score 4/5)

I bought this carseat based on its high ratings from Consumer Reports. I was afraid that it would be a little too big for my car (Toyota Corolla) but fits just fine rear-facing. I'm sure it will fit even better once it's forward-facing. The seat was easy to install but needed a rolled towel under the front of the seat for the proper recline. The seat seems super comfy--very nice padding and my son seems very happy in it (he's been less fussy on car rides). I'm happy with it because the straps are easy to adjust and tighten. Getting him in and out of the seat is a snap. This is a great carseat for a low price!

This is a great seat. It fits in my Cadillac CTS and my son seems comfortable in it. Super easy to install and use. It looks great too. I also have a marathon in my husband's truck and that is great too. I opted for the smaller one for my car and am very happy. Plus I know that our other kids will be able to use it so I don't feel bad not opting for the marathon or roundabout 50 as this will be a great in-between seat to use.

This is a great car seat! We bought it because it was listed on a website to fit our minivan (we previously had problems with our other car seat fitting behind the passenger seat in our van rear-facing. It is much nicer than the Alpha Omega and Gracos we own. We purchased it because one of the colors was on clearance, which made it a great value and we're hooked. I wish we could afford to replace all of our carseats with this one (we have 4, 2 in each vehicle). It is easy to install and my son loves it. Britax thought of a lot of small things that make using this car seat much easier.

If you want a rear-facing seat for a long tim

(Score 3/5)

I am a HUGE fan of Britax. I have had my 16 month old daughter in a Marathon since she was 10 months. I am very passionate about rear-facing to the max weight. I ordered the roundabout for a trip because I thought it would be a little easier to lug around the airport than my daughters Marathon. Also we are pregnant and I figured we could use this for baby #2. When I got the seat I instantly loved it. The Onyx color looks nice..the fabric feels nice and would clean up easily. Here's the problem...my daughter is 16 months now and weighs only 22 pounds. This carseat sits rear-facing up to 35 pounds. She is only 25% for her height and she is at the max height for rear-facing in this seat. They can only sit rear-facing when there is 1 inch or more from the top of the seat to the top of their head. Sure, she can use it now, but obviously she would never make it to 35 pounds rear-facing. So basically this is a great seat, however, if you are concerned about having your child rear-facing as long as possible (which you should..type in rear-facing vs. forward facing on youtube and see the crash test results...if that doesnt convince you I dont know what will) this is not the seat for you. Go with the Marathon. My daughter has at least 4-5 inches left in her Marathon for rear-facing. Plus the marathon goes to 65 pounds forward-facing where the roundabout goes to 40. The roundabout is great for smaller cars so you have to do what you have to do. Just thought maybe this would help someone. I wish I had known this before. I returned the Roundabout to Amazon (which they are awesome with returns). I will lug her marathon on the trip and be ordering another marathon for baby #2.

Good luck with your carseat choice. Whatever you get just make sure its installed properly. Take the time to take it to a certified station where they can check your carseat installation. Also the chest clip goes at the armpits..not lower. I swear..I have yet to see any of my friends put their kids in the seat right. Its not worth it to not do it right.
