Electric Shaver

Razor

Razors have been around since forever, and it seems like the companies release a new and improved version every few years. They provide a smooth shave but do not last for very long - and you need to replace the razor heads quite often.

Electric Shaver

Electric shavers have been around for a very long time, and there are many variations of them. They all work by cutting your hairs close to the skin - but not close enough to provide a really smooth feeling.
They require some power source (batteries, main power, or rechargeable cells) and are usually small and easy to carry.

Low Cost

While cheaper to buy, razors have a lot of expenses associated with them.

There are many types of razors. Some are cheaper than others and some cost a lot. Add to that the ongoing costs of shaving lotions and aftershaves - and the cost of shaving with disposable razors, even the cheapest ones, accumulates to quite a lot.
While a shaver can cost quite a lot, there are many shavers in the market which are both cheap and do their job well.

Electricity costs are usually neglible and the overall financial burden is a lot smaller than shaving with razors.

Eco-friendliness

There is generally more waste produced when using a razor compared to an electric shaver.

With a razor you use water, shaving products which may contain detergents (lotions, gels or just soap), and of course you need to get new blades and dispose of the old ones once in a while.
Electric shavers produce less waste than disposable razors when you use them.

Sure, you use electricity, but when you shave with a razor you usually also turn on the bathroom light too - the electricity footprint with shavers is really neglible.

The electric shavers are therefore more environmentally friendly than using a razor.

Multitask While Shaving

No, no, no.

If you don't want to cut yourself, you'd better concentrate on your shaving when you use a razor.
Electric shavers can easily be used while you're busy doing other things.

The shavers are significantly quicker to use than a shaving razor, and require less of your attention because they won't cut you as easily as a razor.

If you are the kind of person who usually runs late for work in the morning, an electric shaver would be a good option. It can also be used in the car while driving (however, this isn't recommended).

Cuts Free

The close shave provided by the razor makes you more likely to cut yourself while shaving with it.

This becomes especially true for razors that have been used a few times and therefore lose their edge.
Electric shavers are not prone to cut your skin while you shave.

The electric shaver does not shave as close to the skin, and cuts the hairs just above it. This makes it less likely that you'll cut yourself with one. However, you should always remember that a shaver works because it uses blades. These blades may nick your lips or skin folds if you're not careful.

Quick Shave

Shaving with a razor is more time consuming than using an electric shaver.

Washing your face, applying lotion or gel, shaving, rinsing and applying aftershave takes time that you don't need to spend with the electric shaver.

This is especially true for men who need to shave twice (with the grain and against it).
Electric razors are significantly quicker to use than a shaving razor.

Shaving Smoothness

Razors provide a very close, smooth and clean shave which you just can't get with an electric shaver, no matter how much you try.
Electric shavers work further away from your skin compared to razors. Hence, the result is not as smooth.

Suitable for Longer Stubble

Razors are not well suited to shave off a long stubble.

If you haven't shaved for a few days, you may require more than one go to get everything off. Most razors do not handle longer stubble very well - it is hard to cut and also more difficult to wash off the blade.
It is much easier to shave off a few days-growth with an electric shaver.

It will, however, give you a much less closer shave.

Suitable for Sensitive Skin

The close shave that the razor offers can sometimes cause razor burn (skin irritation) and red spots on the skin.

However, many people with sensitive skin prefer to use a razor, as a shaver usually requires multiple passes where a razor only requires one or two.
No shaving gel or lotion is required for electric shaver use. Shaving is performed on dry skin and may cause skin dryness or irritation.

Travel Suitability

It's easy enough to pack a shaving razor and some shaving gel and aftershave lotion when you go for a few days. However, you will normally need a mirror and a sink close by (or at least some water) to wash your face and the razor.

On the upside, you don't need electricity, hence you can shave even when you're camping out in the bush. Given, most men will not bother shaving while camping.
Shavers are very easy to use when travelling. This is because you don't need water, shaving gel, lotion or a mirror to use them.

The only problem is that electric shavers require an electricity supply to recharge them (Unless you have the type that operates on batteries, in which case you may need some of these).

The high mobility of the electric shaver means you can basically shave inside your car in the parking lot.

Fantastic

I have had the same Mach 3 for 6 years and it still works fantastically. Replacing the head is simple and convenient and the blades are always razor sharp, not dulling to quickly, for a smooth shave for months. I think gillette makes the best general use brand shaving product in the united states. Good job gillete

Definitely FAKE!!

(Score 1/5)

I read a few other reviews about these blades being fake and didn't believe it since i've never had such an experience ever. The blades looked fine but within 3-4 days of opening them, the blades started rusting. Stainless Steel blades cannot rust. The lubricating strip dissolves in no time, the blades get clogged. I have used Mach 3 blades for over 8 years and can clearly tell that these are not original blades.
STAY AWAY FROM THESE. Pay the extra dollar and buy them from a reputed store.

Gillette Mach3

To make it short and to the point; This is not the rest, This is the Best! I've tried many other blades, nothing comes close to Mach3. It lasts the longest and stays the sharpest. Yes, the price is little steep, but, if I will be able to find bargain like I did this time, I will be a Mach3 user.

Good price for a quality product

The price of the 12-pack of Gillette Mach-3 cartridges is quite good, compared to Walmart or Target. If combined with an order of over 25$, the free shipping makes it quite a good deal.

NOT Returnable

(Score 2/5)

In nearly every review one reads about shavers and razors, people tell you that you should try the product for at least 30 days to let your skin and hairs adjust. And that your shave will improve. I have an especially thick and heavy beard and always go for the best my money can buy--so after my Panasonic failed, I tried this one, the Braun 790cc.

Initially, the shave was awful. After 45 days, not only was the shave still awful, but the shaver stopped communicating with the charging/cleaning base so neither function was possible anymore.

So, deciding I gave this product a very fair trial period, and giving up on electric shavers in general, I ordered a safety razor (and supplies). Then, I contacted Amazon only to find that because the cleaning solution is a hazadarous material, it is impossible for the shaver to be returned.
And 45 days is past the typical 30 day maximum return period anyways.

Of note, a paid quite a lot for this now-gimped shaver (that I'm now stuck with), however the price has DOUBLED since I bought it less than 2 months ago!

So buyer beware. You cannot simply "try" this shaver. Once you've bought it, it's yours. If it doesn't shave well, you're stuck with it. Enjoy.

Pros: The battery life is great! ...

BEWARE Braun Warranty Issues!!!

(Score 1/5)

I purchased this Braun Shaver directly from Amazon more than a year ago. It came with a 2-Year Warranty. A few months after I began using it I noticed that the cleaning base and the shaver were defective. I tried contacting Braun customer service on April or May 2009 so that I could send my shaver for repair or replacement. However, it was extremely hard to get a hold of them. They finally answered one of my emails yesterday, which was September 22nd, 2010.

I DON'T RECOMMEND anyone to purchase Braun products. I'm surprised Amazon is selling Braun products since Braun has such horrible service.

Not sure; but this may be junk

I think I made a review on this razor previously, but I cant find it..

Owned 2 years now..

Mine fails in the cleaning cycle.. All the lights go out because the connection was lost and it will not start up again unless you wiggle it and try again. and hope it works)..

As many others, I am disappointed with y $300+ shaver too.. I "dropped" mine the first month I had it, so maybe trouble I have are related to the drop.. But I blame the $300+ braun design for the drop, because I owned 2 or more panasonics before the braun and never dropped the panasonics (apparently due to the better designed shape.. with all the shaving lube, the panasonic shape makes sense)..

I tried to get braun to help me with the drop (because it was so new), but didnt feel they would do anything for me (so I chose not to pay to ship it to them).. I will need a new razor soon, and am not considering this overly expensive model (if they would have helped me, I might have been a happy customer).. For $300+ initial purchase price, they probably could have afforded to completely replace the dropped one (and think about redesigning)..

My status indicator is missing bars, and after about 1 1/2 years it now gets steamed up so I cant read it anyway (possibly related to the initial drop, buy why 1 1/2 years later)..

I cant prove it, but I have a nagging feeling I cant shake, that I have been screwed for $300+ for this shaver.

The shave seemed great at first.. But it did seem the razor foil needed to be snapped down (something after you initially snap it into place).. before the shave became great.. Unfortunately, the great shave feel didnt last.. I am thinking about getting my third foil replacement.. But I am starting to think I should just buy a cheap panasonic instead (as a better use of my money)..

Well...I thought I liked it

(Score 2/5)

I bought the Braun 790cc thinking it was the best on the market. You see, I've used blades for years but hate the amount of time it adds to my morning grooming. So my search for the best electric razor began. After getting the braun home I was in love with its build quality. You would think this was made by Apple it is so sturdy. Unfortunately, after my first shave with my new shiny razor I wasn't too impressed. The cheeks and mandible was acceptable but my neck was really not good at all. After a week of shaving I had got better with controlling the razor but shaving took quite a while and I would need to make several passes to get all the stubble, and still there was some left on my neck that I would quickly clean up with my fusion proglide.

Just for kicks I went out and bought the Norelco sensotouch 3d to compare and the results are interesting. First, the sensotouch is much easier to shave with since it conforms to your face as you move it from one part to the next and it takes fewer passes through the same area to get a clean shave thus greatly reducing the amount of time it takes to shave. (Quite honestly, I spend at most 1/2 the time shaving with the sensotouch as with the series 7) It doesn't shave as comfortably as the series 7 but I would hardly say it was uncomfortable and I experienced no irritation or redness.

I really wanted to love the series 7, thats why I bought it first; but in the end, for the money, the Norelco sensotouch 3d does win out. The shave was just as close if not closer, easier, quieter, and faster.

Sorry Braun, but you got beat!

time will tell if its worth the money

(Score 4/5)

I have used Braun shavers for about 20 years now. I began primarily to reduce skin irritation, which it does. My new Braun shaver is a replacement for my 5 series (lasted about 4 1/2 years of daily use), so my experience can only be to compare to other older Braun's.

The Shave is the closest is have ever had from an electric shaver. Very little need to go over same area repeatedly, like in past with other shavers. I can pick up the razor in in about 1 1/2 minutes get a shave good enough for the professional work environment.

The clean up continues to be exceptionally easy with use of the cleaning base.
My previous two shavers had this base, and it alone could be used to justify the use of and electric shaver. About once a month, I open the shaving head to brush extra debris from the head of the shaver (just like in previous models). It is a little more difficult with this model due to the complexity of the shaving head.

This is by far the most expensive shaver that I have ever bought. Although, it gives the best shave that i have ever had, with the exception of hot lather and straight razor from a barber. However, I have had poor customer service in the past from Braun (with another model) and given that it only has a 1 year warranty, it this reason that i give it 4 stars. If it gives me trouble free service for the next 4 years, it would then easily justify 5 stars.
